About PPECC |
|
Today, chronic diseases—such as cardiovascular
disease (primarily heart disease and stroke), cancer, and
diabetes—are among the most prevalent, costly, and preventable of
all health problems. Approximately, 125 million Americans report
having at least one chronic condition and 60 million have more than
one chronic condition. The numbers are even more startling for
seniors. About 80% of those aged 65 and older have one chronic
condition and two-thirds have two or more. By 2020, over 80% of all
health care expenditures will be spent for people with chronic
conditions; direct health care expenditures for chronic conditions
will exceed $1 trillion. Unfortunately health care is still
structured to reflect a commitment to acute care. |
